Why is Rachin Ravindra not playing in tonight’s CSK vs LSG IPL 2024 match?

Rachin Ravindra was one of the top performers for the Chennai Super Kings in their opening contest of IPL 2024 against RCB.

Rachin Ravindra was one of the top performers for the Chennai Super Kings in their opening contest of IPL 2024 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. His explosive start at the top of the order ensured that CSK earned two points from their opening fixture of the tournament. However, Ravindra has been dropped from the playing squad for today’s match between Chennai and Lucknow Super Giants.

Speaking at the toss, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad mentioned that the team had made one change after their defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants in the previous game at the Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium. The change was that New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell came back in for his compatriot Rachin Ravindra.

“Just one change: Rachin Ravindra has been left out for Daryl Mitchell.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad said at the toss (as per ESPNCricinfo)

Gaikwad did not mention the exact reason why they had left out Ravindra, but it looks like they have given him a break after his disappointing performances. The left-handed New Zealand batter got out for a duck in the last match against the Lucknow Super Giants. Since CSK were up against the same opponent in tonight’s match, they decided to leave out Ravindra.

Will Rachin Ravindra come in as an Impact Player for CSK in tonight’s IPL 2024 match against LSG?

The chances of Ravindra coming in as an Impact Player are also negligible. The reason behind it is that the Chennai Super Kings have already named four overseas players in their playing XI. Matheesha Pathirana, Mustafizur Rahman, Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali are the four foreigners of CSK.

It looks like Ravindra has to wait for a week for his next chance. Mustafizur Rahman is only available for CSK till May 1, so after that, Ravindra can walk back in place of him and replace Ajinkya Rahane as an opener. Another bowler may take up Rahane’s place in the team.
