Team India’s hopes for a Test series win in South Africa has been crushed by the South African side as they have beaten India 2-1 in the series with a win in the Third Test in Cape Town.

The Test series between India and South Africa was a cracker of a series, filled with controveries, player vs player battle, such as Jasprit Bumrah and Marco Jansen, it was a series filled with all sorts of excitement.

However, the result didn’t go India’s way. After winning the first by a comfortable margin, they have lost the next two matches to lose 2-1 in the 3 match Test series.

India had won the first Test in Centurion by a good 113 margin with KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami two of the top performer for India. The next match India suffered defeat, in absence of Indian captain Virat Kohli, who was ruled to out due to back spasm. South African captain Dean Elgar was the hero of the match.

The third Test was set to decide the winner of the series. India’s batting unit disappointed in both the innings, scoring only 202 and 266 runs, Virat Kohli scored 79 runs in the first inning, while Rishabh Pant smashed a unbeaten 100 in the second inning.

However, Indian bowling didn’t let down. Jasprit Bumrah bagged 5 wicket in the 1st inning, on a ground where he made his debut four years ago as South Africa was wrapped for 229 runs in the first inning. However, the Proteas played conservative inning in the 2nd inning, chasing down the target of 213 runs.

The result not only means that India has lost the series, they have also even fallen behind the South African side to 5th place in the World Test Championship 2021-2023 Points Table, who now have a percentage of 49.07, while South Africa have jumped into 4th with now a percentage of 66.67.

Sri Lanka currently leads the chart with the only team to be on 100 percentage, having won the 2 out of 2 matches that they have played, behind them is Australia and Pakistan.
