Post his retirement, Lee engaged himself in commentary and often shares his opinions on different matters around the game. He recently expressed his disappointment over the absence of Umran Malik from India’s T20 World Cup squad. He believes the young pacer is too good to be left out of the showpiece event.

The 45-year-old called Malik the best car in the world and said the he should have been picked by the Indian team. “Umran Malik is bowling at 150 km per hour. I mean when you have the best car in the world, and you leave it in the garage, then what’s the point of having that car? Umran Malik should have been picked in the Indian squad for the World Cup,” Lee told Khaleej Times.

Lee also explained how the speedster would help on the Australian pitches where pacers get assists. He also stated that there is a difference between someone bowling at 140 kmph and someone clocking at 150 and over.

“Yes, he is young, yes, he is raw, but he bowls at 150 kmph, so get him in the team, get him to Australia where the ball flies through. It’s different when you have a guy bowling at 140 kmph and a guy who is bowling at 150 kmph.”

Deepak Chahar ruled out of T20 World Cup

In a latest development, Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the marquee event after he twisted his ankle during a practice session for the ODI series against South Africa. Shardul Thakur is likely to take his position in the squad and fly to Australia in the next couple of days.

Mohammed Shami, on the other hand, has passed the NCA fitness test and will fly to Australia too. He is likely to be named as injured Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement. Mohammed Siraj, who was impressive in the ODI series, will also be added to the squad as a reverse player.
