Former Chennai Super Kings member Irfan Pathan feels that the IPL franchises should have signed Suresh Raina at the mega auction. The IPL teams did not bid for Raina at the mega auction because of his disappointing performance in the second half of IPL 2021. He was in good touch during the first half, but he looked out of form in the last few games.

The Chennai Super Kings released him ahead of the mega auction and did not show any interest in him at the mega auction. Fans expected the Lucknow Super Giants to bid for Raina because of his Uttar Pradesh connection. However, even that did not happen.

The only way Raina can come into IPL 2022 is as a replacement player. Irfan Pathan showed support to Raina on Twitter as he tweeted:

Why did Chennai Super Kings not bid for Suresh Raina at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction?

Many fans were shocked to see the Chennai Super Kings not bidding for Suresh Raina. His base price for INR 2 crore and it is not like that CSK went out of budget. Still, they did not go for him.

After the mega auction, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings Kasi Viswanathan said on the YouTube channel that they will miss Raina in IPL 2022, but at the same time, they had to consider the team composition also. Here’s what he said:

“You should also understand that the team composition depends on the form and kind of team which any team would like to have so that’s one of the reasons why we thought he may not fit into this team.”
