Former Indian cricket team opener Aakash Chopra named the four players that the Royal Challengers Bangalore can release ahead of the 2023 IPL season. RCB had a decent IPL 2022 season, where they finished third. They attained the fourth position on the points table and went on to win the Eliminator to book a place in the Qualifier 2.

However, the Faf du Plessis-led outfit could not progress beyond the Qualifier 2 match as the Rajasthan Royals knocked them out of the tournament thanks to a century from Jos Buttler. Nevertheless, RCB fans would be happy because their team was the only one to make it to the playoffs in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Despite undergoing a massive change, RCB maintained their position in the Top 4.

Given the squad they had in this season, it would not be wrong to say that the Royal Challengers Bangalore can win the IPL trophy in the near future. However, they will have to make some changes and work on their weak areas at the next auction.

Aakash Chopra suggests four names whom RCB can consider releasing for the next season

Every year, the IPL teams retain and release players ahead of the auction. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra feels RCB can add 12 to 14 crore to their auction purse by releasing Mohammed Siraj, Sherfane Rutherford, David Willey and Anuj Rawat.

He felt RCB can buy back Siraj at a price cheaper than 7 crore, while Rawat, bought for 3.4 crore, may not play because Faf du Plessis will open with Virat Kohli. He also felt Willey and Rutherford had no place in the team.

“You gave David Willey two crores and I don’t think he is going to fit in your team. So you can release David Willey as well. So 12-14 crores have been released, which means you now have ample money to make a difference,” said Chopra.
