Conceding 36 runs in 1 over is an ultimate form of embarrassment for any bowler. Any bowler can have an off day in the office, but if he ends up giving away 36 runs in just a single over, it means that he was too predictable, and the batters took him to the cleaners.
If a bowler bowls six legitimate deliveries, the maximum runs a batting team can score in an over is 36, that is by hitting six sixes. Another way of conceding 36 runs in a single over is by conceding extras while also leaking boundaries off the other balls.
T20 World Cup is the grandest T20I tournament in the world, and here’s a list of two such bowlers who conceded 36 runs in 1 over of a T20 WC match.
1. Stuart Broad gave 36 runs in 1 over against Yuvraj Singh, 2007
The only bowler to have conceded six sixes in an over of a T20 World Cup match is former England pacer Stuart Broad. The right-arm pacer gave away six sixes to former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh in a Super 8s round match between India and England in the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa.
Singh got angry after a spat with England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. He took out all that anger on young Broad, who could not believe what was happening with him.
2. Azmatullah Omarzai
The second bowler to have joined this unwanted list is Azmatullah Omarzai. The current Afghanistan all-rounder went for 36 runs in the second over of his spell in the recent T20 WC match against West Indies. Nicholas Pooran hit him for 26 runs, while 10 runs came through extras as West Indies got 36 runs from that over.
