Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is one of the most decorated franchises in league cricket history. The team came into existence in the year 2008 and made its debut in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League. To date, CSK have won four IPL championships and two Champions League T20 titles.
It is the dream of almost every young cricketer to play for the Chennai-based franchise and spend some time with some of the legends of the game. Two Sri Lankan cricketers got that opportunity in the previous season. Now, they will be in action in the upcoming Lanka Premier League.
Here is a list of the two current Chennai Super Kings cricketers who will turn up for their respective teams in Lanka Premier League 2022.
1. CSK star Maheesh Theekshana
Maheesh Theekshana gained a lot of experience from his debut IPL season in 2022. The spin bowler was one of the top performers for the Chennai Super Kings. In a chat with the franchise during the league, Theekshana recollected his struggles and said:
“In 2019, I had to be a water boy for 10 games in three-day matches. So I knew that if I failed, I would have to carry the water bottles again. But I kept believing in myself and had that never-say-die attitude. That’s why I am here in 2022.”
Theekshana will play for the defending champions Jaffna Kings in the Lanka Premier League. He will be keen to help the team win another championship.
2. Matheesha Pathirana
Nicknamed Junior Malinga, Matheesha Pathirana will represent the Kandy Warriors in the new season of Lanka Premier League. Pathirana is still very young and has a lot to learn. Chennai Super Kings have retained him for the upcoming IPL 2023 season. In LPL 2022, he will play alongside the likes of Carlos Brathwaite, Isuru Udana and Chamika Karunaratne.
