IPL points table is the thing which every fan follows closely especially when the league stage of a season is nearing its end. The standings indicate which teams have been performing well in a particular, and the top four teams in the final table make it to the playoffs.

Initially, there were eight teams in the league, and now, there are 10 teams. The points table of the Indian Premier League is even more tightly contested these days, with this year’s race to the playoffs witnessing a lot of unexpected twists and turns.

When the league stage starts, every franchise aims to finish in the number one spot of the points table. However, only one team achieves that spot when the league stage concludes. IPL started in 2008, and since then 9 teams, including the now defunct Gujarat Lions, topped the standings. Here’s a look at the two active teams which have never attained the top spot.

    1. Kolkata Knight Riders have never finished number 1 in IPL points table

Kolkata Knight Riders have won two IPL titles and even finished as the runners-up once, but they have never finished at the helm of the standings. The Kolkata-based franchise have played some top-quality cricket, but they have never had the highest points with the best net run rate at the end of the league stage.

KKR finished outside the Top 4 in 2022 and even in 2023. The Knight Riders will be keen to make a fantastic comeback in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.

    2. Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants joined the Indian Premier League in the year 2022. Gujarat Titans debuted with them, but GT have finished number one in the standings twice already. LSG are yet to achieve that feat once. In 2022 and 2023, the Lucknow Super Giants finished third in the standings.

While LSG were eliminated from the playoffs in the Eliminator of the 2022 season, it will be interesting to see how far they reach in the 2023 edition of the league.
