The Ashes 2023 series will start this week. It will be a five-match Test series between arch-rivals Australia and England. This is the oldest rivalry in Test cricket history, and every time these two nations play against each other, thousands of fans from across the world tune into watch the matches.
Over the last few years, there have been several players born outside England who have played for the England cricket team. The best example is the current England Test captain Ben Stokes, who was born in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand, but he will lead England in The Ashes 2023 series.
Quite surprisingly, there are two players in the Australian squad announced for the first two Ashes Test matches, who were born in England. Here are the two names:
1. Josh Inglis might make his Test debut in The Ashes 2023
Wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis is yet to make his Test debut for Australia. The wicket-keeper batter was a backup option for the Australian cricket team in the ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 against India. However, since Alex Carey was available to keep the wickets, Inglis warmed the benches.
Inglis has done well in domestic cricket, which is why Australia have picked him in their squad for the Ashes series. Notably, Inglis was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England.
2. Matt Renshaw
Matt Renshaw has seen many ups and downs in his Test career so far. After missing out on a place in the Australian cricket team’s playing for the WTC Final 2023, Renshaw will hope that he receives a few chances to play in the Ashes. It will be like a home series for him in England because the Australian cricket team batter was born in Middlesborough, Yorkshire.
Australia did not use Renshaw and Inglis in the WTC Final 2023. It will be interesting to see if the duo gets a chance against England.
