T20 World Cup 2024 started on June 1 with a blockbuster battle between neighbors USA and Canada. The American team is co-hosting the mega event for the first time in the tournament’s history, and they started the tournament with a fantastic win against their neighbors.
Many fans would have observed that several cricketers of Asian origin were representing the two countries of North America in that opening fixture. India-born Saurabh Netravalkar, Monank Patel and Nisarg Patel are members of the USA squad in the T20 World Cup 2024, while the following two Canadian squad members were also born in India.
1. Navneet Dhaliwal announced his arrival in T20 World Cup 2024
Punjab-born cricketer Navneet Dhaliwal made a fantastic start to his T20 World Cup career with a half-century against the United States. Playing in Dallas, Dhaliwal aggregated 61 runs from 44 balls while opening the batting for Canada. He hit six fours and three sixes in his entertaining knock.
Dhaliwal has been playing international cricket for Canada since 2015. In fact, he even captained the Canadian team at one point in his career. He will hold the key to Canada’s success in this mega event.
2. Pargat Singh
Born in Ropar region of Eastern Punjab region, Pargat Singh is an all-rounder, who bowls off-spin for the Canadian team now. He bats right-handed, and at one point in his career, Singh even represented the Punjab team.
Singh has played 11 ODIs and 17 T20Is for Canada. He has aggregated over 600 runs in international cricket and also picked up a couple of wickets in each format.
