T20 World Cup 2024 has started, and one of the teams making a return to the grand event this year is Oman. The country from the Middle East made its debut in 2016 and then showed up in 2021 as well. However, on both occasions, they could not make it past the group stage.
In 2022, they failed to qualify for the mega event, but now in 2024, they are back in the mix. This year, ICC has allotted them a place in Group B alongside former champions Australia, defending champions England and upcoming teams Namibia and Scotland.
Having suffered two defeats in two matches, the chances of them qualifying for Super 8s are low, but this qualification might inspire a new generation of players in Oman so that they don’t have to rely on other nations. Here’s a list of two India-born players whom Oman selected in their squad for T20 World Cup 2024.
1. Gujarat-born Kashyap Prajapati is playing for Oman in T20 World Cup 2024
Kashyap Prajapati gained the fans’ attention when he played a brilliant knock 100 runs for Oman in the 2023 World Cup Qualifier match against Zimbabwe last year. He is an integral part of the team’s top-order in the ongoing mega event as well.
Speaking of his performances in the T20 World Cup thus far, Kashyap has returned with scores of 0 and 7 against Namibia and Australia. He was born in Kheda district of Gujarat state in India.
2. Pratik Athavale
While Kashyap Prajapati hails from Gujarat, his teammate Pratik Athavale was born in Nasik of Maharashtra. Pratik is a wicketkeeper batter, who has represented Oman in 16 T20Is and scored 278 runs in 13 innings. He scored 15 in the warm-up match against Afghanistan and got out for a duck against Australia in the group stage.
