Indian cricketers have been auditioning for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup squad for quite some time now. The Men in Blue have played a series against almost every top team in the last two years. The selectors tried out several new players in those matches.

Not all cricketers who debuted for the Indian cricket team in 2022 could make it big. Almost all debutants failed to capitalize on the opportunity that they received and were subsequently dropped. While a few debutants are still around the squad, here’s a list of two such Indian cricketers who started their ODI careers in the year 2022, but they are nowhere near the team right now.

    1. One of the new Indian cricketers – Kuldeep Sen

Kuldeep Sen received his maiden ODI cap ahead of the first ODI of the series between India and Bangladesh last year. Sen is a right-arm fast bowler, who had an impressive outing with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

The selectors tried out Sen against Bangladesh. He bowled a spell of 2/37 in five overs, where he bagged the wickets of Afif Hossain and Ebadot Hossain. Since India lost that series, the selectors decided to make changes to the squad, and one of the names axed from the team was Kuldeep Sen.

    2. Venkatesh Iyer

From being touted as the successor to Hardik Pandya as India’s number one pace-bowling all-rounder to being dropped from the squad shortly, Venkatesh Iyer’s career witnessed a lot of ups and downs in a very short span of time.

Iyer received his maiden ODI cap in January 2022 during the ODI series against South Africa. He played two ODIs, where he scored 24 runs and failed to take any wickets. Soon after the series, he lost his place in the team.
