The Netherlands have announced their squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 tournament. The Men in Orange will make a return to the grand stage for the first time since the year 2011. Incidentally, the last time the Dutch team made it to the World Cup, India was one of the hosts as well. This year, India is the sole host of the World Cup.
The Netherlands impressed the fans with their magnificent performance during the Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers tournament in Zimbabwe. They finished in the Top 2 of the Super Sixes points table and qualified for the final, where the Sri Lankan cricket team defeated them.
The Dutch team are not among the favorites to win the World Cup. Even qualifying for the mega event by overcoming teams like Zimbabwe and West Indies was an achievement for them. The Dutch team will play under the captaincy of Scott Edwards, who was born in Tonga. Interestingly, a couple of Indian origin players will also play for the Men in Orange. 1. Vikramjit Singh is in Netherlands squad for World Cup 2023
Opening batter Vikramjit Singh is one of the two players present in the Dutch squad who is of Indian origin. Singh came into the limelight when he came out to bat for the Netherlands in the T20 World Cup 2022 match against India last year. He is a 20-year-old left-handed batter, who generally opens the innings. Singh was born in Punjab state of India.
2. Aryan Dutt
Another 20-year-old player of Indian origin who is present in the Netherlands squad is Aryan Dutt. He is a right-arm off-spin bowler. Shedding some light on his numbers in ODI cricket, Dutt has picked up 20 wickets in 25 matches for the Netherlands cricket team.
All eyes will be on Dutt and Singh when the Netherlands take the field in the ICC World Cup 2023 matches. They might receive some support from the Indian fans as well.
