2011 World Cup happened in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The Indian team made it to the finals of the tournament and won the competition by defeating co-hosts Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium. It was a memorable tournament for the Indian side as they won almost every game that they played and entertained the fans across the nation.

The next World Cup happened in 2015 in Australia and New Zealand, while four years later, England played host to the mega event. The 2023 edition of the mega event returns to India, with the Asian nation being the solo host this year.

According to ESPNCricinfo, the BCCI has shortlisted 12 cities across India to host the matches. The list is as follows: Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai. The final will reportedly happen in Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023.

Two Indian stadiums which hosted the 2011 World Cup matches have been shockingly excluded from the shortlisted venues for the 2023 WC. Here’s a list of those two venues:

    1. Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali hosted 2011 World Cup semifinal

From hosting the grand semifinal clash between India and Pakistan in 2011 to not finding a place in the shortlisted venues for the 2023 WC, PCA Stadium seems to have fallen down on BCCI’s charts. The venue hosted three matches of the 2011 edition of the mega event, with the other two matches being South Africa vs Netherlands and West Indies vs Ireland.

    2. Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur

The city of Nagpur played host to the group stage match between India and South Africa in the 2011 WC. Apart from that, Nagpur also hosted three other group stage matches – Netherlands vs England, New Zealand vs Australia and Canada vs Zimbabwe. However, it looks like Nagpur will not host any matches in 2023 WC.
