Of course, when an IPL owner invests outside the country, the name of the team is likely to remain the same. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two IPL franchises that share their name with another team or club in India.
India has many other sports and many of these sports also have a league like IPL. In this regard, some names of teams repeat in quite a few leagues.
1) Lucknow Super Giants – Mohun Bagan Super Giant
Of course, Mr Sanjiv Goenka owns both these outfits and hence, the name is the same. In fact, when they had previously owned the Pune franchise in IPL, as well, the name was the same. When LSG visits Kolkata to take on KKR, to honour the legacy of the football club, they also have the trademark maroon jersey for the game. On the other hand, there are a few fans who do not like the LSG jersey much and want it to be changed at the earliest.
2) Gujarat Titans – Telugu Titans
Gujarat Titans is one of the IPL franchises that share their name with another team or club in India. GT is one of the recent franchises to have joined the league. They had a stellar debut season by winning the tournament. Even before they had debuted in IPL, a Pro Kabaddi League team called Telugu Titans was in existence. The team was a part of the tournament right from the inception of PKL. Telugu Titans have been struggling to make a mark but they have a good squad now.
