Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the Indian Premier League history with five championships to their name. MI joined IPL in 2008 but did not make it to the playoffs in the first two seasons. They ended as runners-up in the 2010 edition of the league.
After failing to win the trophy in 2011 and 2012 despite finishing in the Top 4, Mumbai finally ended their championship drought with a triumph in 2013. MI added more trophies to their cabinet by winning IPL in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
While Mumbai Indians have the most championship wins to their name, they have surprisingly failed to defeat the following two franchises in the Indian Premier League history.
1. Mumbai Indians are yet to defeat Lucknow Super Giants in IPL
Lucknow Super Giants joined the Indian Premier League in 2022. The Lucknow-based franchise qualified for the playoffs in their debut season itself. Playing under the captaincy of KL Rahul, LSG managed to win both of their league matches against Mumbai in IPL 2022.
Even though MI had the advantage of playing matches at home, they struggled to get going in IPL 2022. LSG defeated them by 18 runs in a day match at Brabourne Stadium and then defeated them by 36 runs at Wankhede Stadium. KL Rahul scored a century in both the matches.
2. Kochi Tuskers Kerala
Back in 2011, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune Warriors joined the IPL. None of the two franchises could impress the fans much. While Mumbai had a dominant record against the Pune Warriors, they suffered a defeat in their only match against the Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
Sachin Tendulkar scored his only IPL century in that game and helped Mumbai finish with 182/2 in 20 overs. Unfortunately, his efforts went in vain as KTK scored 184/2 in 19 overs.
