IPL team owners are among the richest in the world. The brand value of the Indian Premier League franchises has increased by leaps and bounds in recent years. Chennai Super Kings, one of the most successful franchises in T20 cricket, reportedly became a unicorn recently.
Teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals have tried to increase their fanbase by buying franchises in other T20 leagues like Caribbean Premier League. Most recently, a report emerged claiming that six of the current 10 team owners of the Indian Premier League have bought franchises in the new league initiated by Cricket South Africa.
Eight of the current 10 team owners in the league have also invested their funds in other franchises, but the following two teams are yet to buy a second franchise.
1. Royal Challengers Bangalore
Former three-time finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore have one of the largest fan bases in the Indian Premier League. However, the Bangalore-based franchise have not yet invested in any of the other T20 leagues across the world.
It seems like the RCB team owners are only interested in the Indian Premier League. Fans should note that the Bangalore-based franchise has one of the highest brand values in the league.
2. IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans
Two new teams, namely Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants joined the Indian Premier League in 2022. CVC Capitals bought GT, while RPSG Group bought LSG. Interestingly, inside one year of buying an IPL franchise, LSG team owners have bought another franchise.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Lucknow Super Giants have bought a franchise in South Africa’s new T20 league. The team owner is reportedly interested in having Durban as their base. It seems like they may name the franchise as Durban Super Giants. CSA League will start in January 2023.
