IPL Auction 2023 was done and dusted on Friday evening in Kochi. The mini auction saw players from different parts of the world earn contracts from the 10 IPL franchises. In IPL 2023, players from all 12 Test playing nations except Pakistan will be in action.

Pakistan players do not have permission to participate in the IPL due to the political tensions between the two Asian countries. The only IPL season featuring the Pakistani cricketers was 2008. Since then, none of the Pakistan cricketers have earned a contract from the IPL franchises.

However, fans should note that Pakistan origin cricketers of other nations are eligible to play in the IPL. In IPL 2023, there will be three Pakistan origin players, namely Sikandar Raza (Punjab Kings), Moeen Ali (Chennai Super Kings) and Adil Rashid (SunRisers Hyderabad). Apart from that, there were two such players who registered themselves for the IPL 2023 Auction but remained unsold. Here are the two names.

    1. Rehan Ahmed remained unsold at IPL 2023 Auction

Rehan Ahmed, who recently made his Test debut for the England cricket team in the ICC World Test Championship series against the Pakistan cricket team, is of Pakistani origin. Ahmed played U-19 cricket for England and was one of the few foreign spinners present in the shortlisted IPL 2023 players.

Ahmed did not attract any bids from the IPL teams, but he is immensely talented and should earn a contract from the teams in the near future.

    2. Shariz Ahmed

Pakistan origin Netherlands spinner Shariz Ahmed was present in the list of 991 players who put their names in the IPL 2023 Auction. However, he did not make it to the final list of 405 names who went under the hammer on December 23. Not a single player from the Netherlands cricket team earned a contract at this year’s auction.
