The Ashes 2023 series is about to get underway soon. It promises to be yet another entertaining five-match Test series between the England cricket team and the Australian cricket team. This is the oldest rivalry in cricket history, which is why it receives viewership from all parts of the world whenever the series is played.
The latest edition of The Ashes will kick off on June 16, 2023. Ben Stokes and Pat Cummins are the captains of England and Australia, respectively this year, while there is one Pakistan origin cricketer present in the squads of both teams for the first two Test matches.
Pakistan has never been a part of The Ashes. However, the following two Pakistani origin cricketers will be in action for Australia and England in the series.
1. Pakistan-born Usman Khawaja will play for Australia in The Ashes 2023 series
Usman Khawaja was born in Islamabad, Pakistan. The left-handed batter has made a name for himself with his excellent performances in the Test format for the Australian cricket team. Khawaja has scored heaps of runs in his career against England, with some of his best performances coming in the previous series hosted by Australia.
Khawaja will be keen to replicate that performance. It will be exciting to see how he performs the likes of James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood in English conditions.
2. Moeen Ali
While Usman Khawaja was born in Pakistan, Moeen Ali was born in England only, but he is of Pakistan origin. He had retired from Test cricket but the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) requested him to reconsider the decision. Ali took a U-turn because England’s top spinner Jack Leach was ruled out due to an injury.
Ali has played several match-winning knocks for the England cricket team. He has also bowled some impactful spells, and England will hope for the same.
