Some cricketers took a little more time to recover. Hence, they were ready after the World Cup. But, unfortunately, they could not take part in it because the team had already been selected.

    1) Axar Patel

The case of Axar Patel was very unfortunate. He was in fine form in the last few months and he would have been an easy selection to the side for the World Cup. However, at the last minute, he got injured. R Ashwin came in as the replacement. This was the only change that India made after announcing the World Cup squad. Cut to a few weeks later, Axar is now playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He is playing for Gujarat and has already left a mark. This will help him in the next few months as India starts preparing for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

    2) Sisanda Magala

Sisanda Magala is one of the players ruled out of the 2023 ODI World Cup but is playing domestic cricket. Magala and Anrich Nortje got ruled out of the ODI World Cup after first getting selected in the squad. Interestingly, just a few days after the final squad was named, Magala took part in some List A games in South Africa. It was a surprise because if South Africa knew that he would be fit within a few days, they could have still considered him. Nevertheless, they went ahead with an all-rounder and may be, this might have been needed considering the balance of the side.
