One of the toughest jobs to get is to play for Team India. There is so much competition that at times, luck should also favour a cricketer to have a long stint in the blue jersey. Thanks to the opportunities in domestic cricket, a few players could still get a chance although they once squandered it. In this article, we take a look at two players who could return to Team India after a gap of more than five years.

It is easy for fans and even the selectors to forget a player after he goes through a barren run in domestic cricket. Although he/she has played for India before, the next opportunity is not always guaranteed. That said, with IPL and other domestic events in place, the ball is always in a player’s court to execute a comeback.

    1) Rishi Dhawan – ODI/T20I Team

    Last played in 2016

Rishi Dhawan is one of the two players who could return to Team India after a gap of more than five years. The all-rounder has been in fine form over the past few domestic seasons. In the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy, Rishi stood at No.2 in the list of both the highest run-getters and wicket-takers. He topped it off by leading his team to win the title. India needs multi-utility players and Rishi is someone who could offer that. Hence, it would not be a surprise if he gets rewarded with a place in Team India for his recent consistent shows.

    2) Jaydev Unadkat – Test Team

Last played a Test in 2010

Jaydev Unadkat was first picked for the Test Team by the selectors. It was back in 2010 when India toured South Africa. Since then, the left-arm seamer has not got another chance. This is despite him doing extraordinary work in the Ranji Trophy. He was the highest wicket-taker in the last campaign. Jaydev has also added decent batting skills to his armoury. Since India needs left-arm seamers, there is a chance that they could try him out. In the limited-overs setup, he last played for India in 2018.
