Winning the Man of the Match award is the aim of every cricketer in a cricket match. There are 24 players in an IPL cricket match now, and generally, there are 22 players in a game. The player who performs the best across both teams wins the Man of the Match award for his great performance.
Usually, the organizers award the Player of the Match award to the player from the winning team because his contribution helped his team win the match. However, in a rare scenario, the organizers also give this prize to a player from the losing team if he has produced a heroic performance.
The same has happened in the Indian Premier League as well, with some players even achieving this feat more than once in their careers. Here’s a list of the two players who have won more than 1 IPL Player of the Match award in a losing cause.
1. Shikhar Dhawan – 2 Man of the Match awards in losing cause
Star Indian left-handed batter Shikhar Dhawan has achieved the feat winning the Player of the Match award in a losing cause in IPL matches twice. He won the award last night while leading the Punjab Kings against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. PBKS scored 143 runs last night, with Dhawan scoring 99 of them. SRH won the match by eight wickets.
Before that, Dhawan won the award while playing for the Delhi Capitals against the Punjab Kings in 2020. He scored 106 for DC, but PBKS won the game by five wickets.

Former Punjab Kings captain Yuvraj Singh was the first player to achieve this feat. He scored 50 and picked up 3/22 for PBKS against RCB in 2009, but RCB won that game by eight runs. Later, in 2011, Singh aggregated 66 runs and bagged four wickets for Pune Warriors. Still, DD beat PWI by three wickets.
