WTC Final 2023 is all set to take place between India and Australia from June 7 to 11. It is the second edition of the World Test Championship Final. The first one happened in the year 2021, where India squared off against Australia’s neighboring nation New Zealand and suffered a defeat on the reserve day.
This year, India will be clashing against the mighty Australian side. India and Australia met in an ICC Final for the last time back in the year 2003. It was the World Cup in South Africa, where the Australian side registered a massive win against the Indian cricket team. Two decades later, India will be keen to avenge that loss in WTC Final.
While the WTC match will happen in the Test format, India avenged that 2003 World Cup defeat by knocking Australia out of the 2011 World Cup in the quarterfinals phase. Two players from that Indian squad will be in action in WTC as well. Here’s a list of the two names.
1. Virat Kohli will play in WTC Final
Virat Kohli was quite young in the 2011 World Cup. He was one of the youngest names in the Indian squad, but because of his extraordinary talent and skills, Kohli received a place in the playing XI for the quarterfinal against Australia in Ahmedabad. Kohli could not score big in that match. He will aim to score big against Australia this time around.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin
The conditions in Ahmedabad favored the spinners, which is why Team India picked off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in their playing XI for the quarterfinal against Australia. He had also done well in the group stage match against West Indies before that.
Ashwin will likely feature in India’s playing XI at the Kennington Oval for the WTC Final. It will be exciting to see how he performs in that match.
