IPL Final is one of the most-watched cricket games of the year. The Indian Premier League takes place once in every year, and like every other tournament, there is a final match to end the competition. Initially, the league also had a semifinals system like World Cups, where the top four teams competed in two knockout matches, with the winners advancing to the final.
However, from 2012 onwards, the playoffs system was introduced in the league. The top four teams played via the playoffs system, where the top two teams competed in the Qualifier 1, followed by an Eliminator match between the third and fourth-placed teams. The Qualifier 2 match decides the second finalist, where the loser of Qualifier 1 takes on the winner of the Eliminator.
The BCCI launched this league in the year 2008, and interestingly, there are still some players who have maintained their fitness and are playing in the 2023 season. Here’s a list of the two players who qualified for the 2008 IPL Final and will play in the 2023 Final as well.
1. MS Dhoni will lead a team in IPL 2023 Final just like 2008
MS Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, led the franchise in the first-ever final of the league which happened in the year 2008. Dhoni led the team to the finals, where they finished runners-up after a last-ball finish. Shane Warne’s Rajasthan Royals won that tournament.
This year, Dhoni has already qualified for the final as the Chennai Super Kings defeated the Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 1 match.
2. Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja is the MVP of the Chennai Super Kings team right now. Jadeja has done an excellent job for CSK and played a vital role in the team’s journey to the final. Not many fans would remember that Jadeja played in the 2008 final as well. He scored a golden duck in that game, but RR ended up winning.
