The ODI World Cup 2023 is set to start soon. Discussions are already ongoing about the selection of squads. Here, we take a look at the list of two players you might not know were vice-captains in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
In the case of many, we have seen the vice-captains of the 2019 ODI WC becoming the captains of the 2023 ODI WC. Some famous examples include the likes of Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler. However, there were a few vice-captains in the 2019 edition whom we do not know much about.
1) Dhananjaya de Silva
Dasun Shanaka is the current skipper of Sri Lanka. Interestingly, he was not part of the 2019 ODI World Cup. Back then, Dhananjaya de Silva was the vice-captain of the side. An experienced all-rounder, his role will be crucial for the upcoming mega-event. Yes, he would be a part of the leadership group but it is interesting that he was the vice-captain back then.
2) Alex Carey
Alex Carey is one of the players you might not know were vice-captains in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Pat Cummins and Carey were both the vice-captains in that event. Aaron Finch was the skipper. Carey was doing well back then and sensing his natural leadership skills, he was made the vice-captain. However, he is not on the scene right now with regard to captaincy. Focus is on the likes of Pat Cummins, Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh to help Australia go forward. Nevertheless, as the keeper and the finisher, Carey will hold a vital role in the playing XI.
