BBL 2024 Draft happened yesterday in Australia. Eight teams roped in players from different parts of the world. In the past, there would be no such things like a draft in the Big Bash League as teams would use only direct signings as the way of roping in the players.
However, things have changed now because of the tough competition the league faces from other leagues having the same window. There are different categories in the Draft, namely Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. The salary of the Platinum category players ranges from AUD 360,000 to AUD 420,000, depending on the players’ availability for the tournament.
The Gold category players have a fixed salary of AUD 300,000, while the players in the silver category have a fixed contract worth AUD 200,000. The bronze category players take a sum of up to AUD 100,000 home.
IPL is considered the top league in the world, when it comes to paying salaries to cricketers. However, it may surprise a few fans that the following two RCB players will earn more in BBL as compared to IPL 2024.
1. Lockie Ferguson’s salary in BBL 2024 is more than his IPL contract
Lockie Ferguson had a salary of 10 crore INR in the IPL last year when he played for the Kolkata Knight Riders. However, in 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru managed to rope him in for just 2 crore. In the BBL, Sydney Thunder roped in the New Zealand fast bowler in the Platinum category, meaning he will take a minimum of INR 2.04 crore home.
2. Tom Curran
Tom Curran was a member of the RCB team in IPL 2024. However, the team management did not pick him in the playing XI for any of the matches. Curran took 1.5 crore home for warming the benches. In the BBL, Melbourne Stars pre-signed him in the gold category, which amounts to approximately INR 1.7 crore.
