Pakistan were the semifinalists in T20 World Cup 2021 and finalists in T20 World Cup 2022. On both occasions, they had a stellar squad, but the Men in Green could not win the championship. With Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim coming out of retirement, Pakistan fans have high hopes from their team in T20 World Cup 2024.

However, the hopes have been dashed quickly because the Babar Azam-led outfit have suffered defeats against ‘B’ teams of New Zealand and even the lower-ranked Ireland team. Notably, Joshua Little skipped the series against the Men in Green owing to his commitment with Gujarat Titans. Still, Ireland recorded a historic win at the Castle Avenue.

It does not seem like the Men in Green will lift the T20 World Cup this year, but here are two reasons why they may not even make it to the Super 8s.

    1. Pakistan are in the same group as India and Ireland

The biggest problem for the Babar Azam-led outfit is that they find themselves in the same group as India and Ireland. Everyone knows the poor record that the Men in Green have against the Indian side. Plus, now they are facing issues to defeat the Irish squad as well.

USA and Canada are the weakest teams in the group, and they are expected to lose to the other three teams. In that case, the Men in Green’s matches against India and Ireland are very crucial.

    2. Spinners are not the strongest point of the team

The pitches in the Caribbean and the United States of America will likely help the slower bowlers. The Men in Green’s main strength is their pace attack.

With no major quality spinner present in the squad, Babar Azam will have a hard time rotating his bowlers. Hence, he may not be able to lead his team to the Super 8s as well.
