The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is just 3 weeks away. It will start on June 1, and West Indies and the USA will be the co-hosts of this tournament. The coming event will see a total of 20 teams, and a total of 55 matches will be played throughout the competition. Team India will also enter the team in order to end the trophy drought.
India have not won an ICC trophy since 2013. So can Rohit Sharma and his men end this streak? Well, only time will tell, but looking at the current scenario, it certainly looks difficult. Many believe that India are one of the contenders because the conditions will be pretty similar to those in India. But here we will talk about three major points that decrease India’s chances in the coming event.
1. Form of Captain and Vice Captain
Rohit Sharma will lead Team India, and Hardik Pandya has been named as vice captain. That means these two players will be very important. Firstly, Rohit is a free-flowing batter who takes on the pressure of other Indian batters. But if he gets out early, then India will be under pressure. And looking at his current batting form, fans are certainly worried. That is also the case for Hardik. He has bowled decently but gone for runs and hasn’t had a good record with the bat. Hopefully, they can get into form before the tournament, but if not, it will be a massive factor.
2. No Designated Finisher
T20 cricket is a format where everyone has a specific role. That is right—on the day, one batter can win a game single-handedly. But to finish the matches and set scores, you need a proper finisher. India have dropped Rinku Singh and has Hardik and Jadeja to bat at No. 6 or 7. Well, both stars have not contributed much with the bat in recent times, which raises a big question about India’s finisher role. India have picked up Pant, Samson, and Dube, who aren’t natural finishers, especially in run chases.
3. Form of Indian Pacers
Team India have picked up four spinners and only three pacers in their squad. That means Hardik will have a big role to play. But the biggest worry is the form of the pacers. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep, Siraj, and Hardik have gone for plenty, and these guys will be bowling in the final overs for India. Arshdeep, Siraj, and Hardik have an economy rate of 10.06, 9.26, and 10.58, respectively, which might haunt the tournament. Because with an out-of-form bowling unit, you may win a few games but not the tournament.
