Rain has played the villain’s role in recent IPL matches. The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League is in its business end. Just when the matches mattered the most, rain came to interrupt the games. For example, Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2024 campaign came to an end with two back-to-back washouts. They had an outside chance of qualifying for the playoffs. However, both of GT’s last two matches were washed out due to rain.
Even the ongoing IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings, which has major playoffs implications, had an impact of rain at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Luckily, the match has not been washed out.
In this listicle now, we will look at the two smart ways how BCCI can tackle the rain problem if it interrupts the proceedings in the upcoming IPL seasons.
1. BCCI can construct a stadium with retractable roof in 2 cities of India to tackle rain in IPL
Retractable roof is the best way of dealing with rain in the cricket matches. Australia has a stadium with a retractable roof, which means that when it starts rain, the roof shuts down, and the cricket action can continue as it happened.
However, there is just one drawback. The question rises what will happen if the ball hits the roof when it has been retracted. Still, at least, matches can go on if 2 different cities have the stadium with retractable roofs.
2. Conduct toss and practice indoors so that match can begin as soon as possible
One thing which the organizers surprisingly do even in rain-hit matches is that the toss happens in the middle, and then, the teams practice for 15 minutes. This thing can be stopped, by at least conducting the toss indoor in the stadium. Also, once the covers are taken off, match can start as soon as possible instead of giving 15 minutes for final practice.
