USA have started off on a magnificent note in the T20 World Cup 2024. Being the co-hosts of the mega event, the United States cricket team earned a direct entry into the tournament, and they have already recorded two wins from two matches.
Even if the USA team wins one of their remaining two games in the group stage, they will have a realistic chance of qualifying for the Super 8s round. Fans would have observed that almost every cricketer in the USA squad was born outside the United States.
Most of the current USA team members were born in India or Pakistan, but here’s a list of two such cricketers who were born in South Africa and are now playing for USA in T20 World Cup 2024.
1. Andries Gous is playing for USA in T20 World Cup 2024
Wicketkeeper batter Andries Gous played a big role in the United States of America’s win against the Pakistan cricket team. Gous was born in Welkom region of South Africa on November 24, 1993, and he is 30 years old right now.
The right-handed batter played U-19 cricket for South Africa and then moved to USA for a better future. He has played eight T20Is so far, amassing 261 runs, with his strike rate being 146.62 and average being 32.62.
2. Shadley van Schalkwyk
Born in Cape Town, Shadley van Schalkwyk is an all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace. Shadley hails from the same school as Jacques Kallis, but he could not make it big as an all-rounder for the Proteas like Kallis. Instead, he has started a new journey for America and is playing for them at the T20 World Cup.
