Australia are currently on a tour of South Africa, where they are playing against the Proteas in a five-match ODI series. The two teams first battled in a three-match T20I series, where the Australian cricket team recorded a 3-0 win. The five-match ODI series started in Bloemfontein with the Aussies recording a three-wicket victory.
South Africa will be keen to bounce back in the second ODI against the Aussies. The Proteas have a strong squad, but they also have a lot of talent, which is playing for other countries. Quite a few South Africa-born players have moved to New Zealand, England, USA and even Australia. Here’s a list of two such South Africa-born players who are playing for the Aussies in the ongoing ODI series.
1. South Africa-born Marnus Labuschagne is playing for Australia
Top-order batter Marnus Labuschagne is one of the two names on this list. Labuschagne was born in North West Province of South Africa. He is currently playing in home conditions. Labuschagne has made a name for himself with his fantastic batting performances in the Test format.
He is not the among best ODI batters for Australia, but in the first ODI against the Proteas, he came in as a concussion substitute and scored a match-winning half-century for his team. He is not in the World Cup squad of Australia right now.
2. Michael Neser
Fast-bowling all-rounder Michael Neser recently joined Australia as a replacement in the ongoing tour. Neser has played only two Tests and two ODIs for Australia, but he has been a regular member of the squad. The pace bowler has accounted for two wickets in ODIs for the Aussies.
It will be interesting to see if he gets a chance to play in front of his home fans in the series. In case you didn’t know, Neser was born in Pretoria.
