Sunrisers Hyderabad have officially named Pat Cummins as their new captain for IPL 2024. The Orange Army have dropped Aiden Markram as their skipper even though the South African star led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to two back-to-back championship wins in SA20.

Pat Cummins has an excellent resume as the captain of the Australian team. In 2023 alone, Cummins led the Australian side to a win in the ICC World Test Championship Final, a triumph at the ICC ODI World Cup in India plus a drawn Ashes series against Bazball England away from home.

Interestingly, Cummins doesn’t captain Australia in T20Is, but he will be leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL now. As everyone knows, Cummins will now occupy one of the four overseas spots in the playing XI of SRH. The other three spots will be up for grabs, and there are many talents waiting for that position. Here’s a look at the two players who may not get a single game for SRH.

    1. Fazalhaq Farooqi may have to warm the benches for full season due to Pat Cummins

Fazalhaq Farooqi is a talented left-arm fast bowler from Afghanistan, but the rising star will have to wait for his chance now because Cummins will be the lead overseas pacer of the team.

SRH also have the options of Travis Head, Wanindu Hasaranga, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and Glenn Phillips, making it almost impossible for the Hyderabad-based franchise to give Farooqi a place in the playing XI.

    2. Marco Jansen

Marco Jansen is a talented all-rounder, but again he is a left-arm pace-bowling option. If Hyderabad pick both Cummins and Jansen in the team, it means that they will have to select only two players from Travis Head, Wanindu Hasaranga, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and Glenn Phillips, which might not help the team’s batting. Hence, Jansen may watch the entire season from the sidelines now.
