IPL is the grandest T20 league in the cricketing world, and with 10 teams in the tournament now, lots of players from around the world are earning contracts from the franchises. The teams can sign players at the auctions. They also have options to acquire a player from other team before the auction via the trading window.
Over the years, teams like Mumbai Indians have signed big names like Quinton de Kock and Trent Boult in the trading window. There has also been a triple trade between teams. Even Royal Challengers Bangalore once roped in KL Rahul via a trade.
There have been some excellent trades in the history of the Indian Premier League, but not always do the trade offers from the team get approved. Here’s a list of the two instances when a team stopped their player from being traded to another franchise.
1. Pune Warriors stopped Murali Kartik from moving to Chennai Super Kings
Former Indian spinner Murali Kartik disclosed in an interview with Sportskeeda Cricket that he was going to be traded from the Pune Warriors to the Chennai Super Kings. However, Sourav Ganguly, who was the skipper of the Pune Warriors team, stopped the trade. Here’s what Kartik revealed:
“When we came to Pune Warriors, he (Sourav Ganguly) did not allow me to go to Chennai Super Kings. The year when Ravindra Jadeja went in the transfer window, they asked me, they asked the officials of Pune Warriors, but Dada said ‘No, I won’t allow you.'”
2. SunRisers Hyderabad did not allow Mumbai Indians to take Rashid Khan in IPL
Former SunRisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody once revealed that the Mumbai Indians once came to SRH with an offer to trade leg-spinner Rashid Khan to them. Here’s what Moody said:
“I remember Mumbai Indians, it may have been 2-years ago, requesting a trade for Rashid Khan. I mean come on!”
Moody added that MI keep making such ridiculous trade offers to other teams. At least one of them listens to them and goes ahead, allowing Mumbai to form a stronger squad.
