Rajasthan Royals have been eliminated from IPL 2024 after losing against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The Royals finished third in the standings, and then they defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Eliminator to progress to the next round.
However, they were up against Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad, who had defeated RR once in the league round already. The Royals failed to avenge that loss. Sunrisers trapped the Royals in a web of spin. The Royals will now look forward to the IPL 2025 Mega Auction and decide their retentions.
Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Yuzvendra Chahal, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Trent Boult are expected to be the four retentions by RR. However, here’s a list of the two unexpected players whom RR may retain.
1. Rajasthan Royals may retain Avesh Khan
RR recruited Avesh Khan during the trade window. They traded him in for 10 crore from the Lucknow Super Giants before IPL 2024, and the right-arm pacer proved himself as a wicket-taking bowler. RR should try to negotiate with Khan, and if he settles for a price less than 10 crore, they should retain him because he is a long-term asset.
2. Sandeep Sharma
Many fans felt that Sandeep Sharma was the best Indian bowler after Jasprit Bumrah in the IPL 2024 season. His swing and variations helped the Rajasthan-based franchise achieve a lot of success.
Sharma can be a decent retention. He brings a lot of experience to the fore. Plus, he has done a great job in the fielding department as well. Thus, the Royals can end up retaining him in their squad.
