Mumbai Indians became the first team to be officially eliminated from the race to the IPL 2024 playoffs yesterday after they lost against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The Mumbai-based franchise suffered their eighth defeat of the competition, which has made it impossible for them to finish in the Top 4.

With the chances of qualifying for the playoffs being negligible, the Mumbai Indians will now aim to test the bench strength in the remainder of the matches. Here’s a list of the three changes which the Mumbai-based franchise might make for their next game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

    1. Mumbai Indians might name Suryakumar Yadav as new captain for the rest of IPL 2024

The team management of MI made a big blunder by sacking Rohit Sharma as the skipper. Hardik Pandya totally failed to deliver as the new skipper. With IPL 2025 set to have a mega auction, MI can now think of releasing Pandya so that they have enough funds.

Suryakumar Yadav captained MI in the absence of Rohit Sharma in 2023. He has even captained the Indian team, which is why the team management of MI can think of trying him as skipper for the remainder of the season.

    2. Arjun Tendulkar in for Jasprit Bumrah

Arjun Tendulkar has been on the bench for the entire 2024. He made his debut for MI last season, and the left-arm fast bowler put up a decent show. With T20 World Cup coming up, Jasprit Bumrah could be rested, and Tendulkar could be tried out.

    3. Anshul Kamboj in for Hardik Pandya

Anshul Kamboj is an uncapped pace-bowling all-rounder present in the MI squad. Hardik Pandya has not been able to make any impact as an all-rounder or a captain this season. Perhaps, it’s time to bench him and try a new player like Anshul Kamboj, who will be hungry to perform.
