IPL’s new rule means that Indians who have not played international cricket in the last five years could be retained as uncapped cricketers. Here, we take a look at the list of three veteran all-rounders who could be retained as uncapped players before IPL 2025.
Retaining an uncapped cricketer happens at INR 4 Crores. This is a big discount and especially if an experienced player is involved, the deal could be a brilliant one. Some teams could actually exercise this option before the auctions. We take a look at two all-rounders who could be retained this way.
1) Vijay Shankar
Vijay Shankar last played a game for India in 2019. Hence, he is eligible for this rule. Gujarat Titans had him on the roster for the last three years. In a few games he did well but overall, he had a poor stint with them. Nevertheless, he is an experienced player and it is hard to get such a player with so much experience at INR 4 Cr. Especially with the Impact Player rule still there, Vijay can be a good choice for Gujarat Titans.
2) Rishi Dhawan could be one of the uncapped players before IPL 2025
Rishi Dhawan is also on this list of veteran all-rounders who could be retained as uncapped players before IPL 2025. Punjab Kings could not make the best use of him in IPL 2024 because they had other good new-ball bowlers. However, things could change in IPL 2024. PBKS have a lot of good uncapped players who could be retained. Having last played for India in 2016, Rishi Dhawan is also an option now. It needs to be seen if Punjab Kings makes use of this rule and retains Rishi Dhawan. The Himachal Pradesh man can be a good new-ball bowler and adds batting depth at No.7 or No.8.
