Shubman Gill joined Sachin Tendulkar in the elite club of batters to have scored a double hundred in the one-day international format of the game. Tendulkar was the first batter to score a double hundred in this format. He accomplished the feat while playing against the South African cricket team at Gwalior in 2010.

Tendulkar was in the final phase of his cricketing career when he opened the club for the 200-run scorers in ODI cricket history. Soon after Tendulkar, there were new entrants in the club, namely Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Fakhar Zaman, Martin Guptill, Ishan Kishan, Chris Gayle and now Shubman Gill.

Gill is the latest entrant on the list. He accomplished the feat earlier today in the first ODI of the series against the New Zealand cricket team, where he scored 208 runs off 149 balls while opening the innings.

With this knock, Gill broke his teammate Ishan Kishan’s record for being the youngest player to smash a double hundred in ODI cricket history. Besides, Gill also broke two records that were previously owned by The Little Master, Sachin Tendulkar. Here’s a list of the two records:

    1. Shubman Gill has the highest individual score in ODIs at Hyderabad

Shubman Gill has set a new world record for the highest individual score in ODI matches hosted by Hyderabad. The 23-year-old broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record today. Tendulkar previously held the top spot with a 175-run knock against Australia in 2009.

    2. Sachin Tendulkar no longer owns world record for highest score vs. New Zealand

For a long time, Sachin’s highest ODI score was 186*, which he achieved against New Zealand in 2003. It was also the highest score by a player against New Zealand in ODIs until today. Gill has broken the record now with his 208-run knock.
