Pat Cummins and the Australian management will have a lot to discuss about their Test Team in the coming days. The loss in the WTC Final would have been a major blow to the side. Here, we take a look at the list of three Aussies who could be sidelined after the 2025/26 Ashes.
The squad will go for a transition after the upcoming Ashes. Considering the current scenario, winning the Ashes will be very important for Australia, considering it is happening at home.
1) Usman Khawaja
Usman Khawaja is on the wrong side of his age to be a part of the side for the next WTC Cycle. Also, he has been far too inconsistent to merit a spot in the squad. It is hard for Australia to traverse the transition era, but they have to do it now. If not, they could be in further trouble for the next two cycles.
2) Nathan Lyon could be sidelined after the 2025/26 Ashes
It could be time for Australia to move on from Lyon. Like at his peak, he does not pick wickets in a heap these days. Considering his age, Australia must plan for his successor. There are quite a few options at the domestic level for Australia. Hence, after the Ashes, the Aussies could trigger this.
3) Josh Hazlewood
This will be the most difficult decision for Australia. Josh has had injury issues and in the next two years, the team needs him for two World Cups. Scott Boland is anyways there as the ready backup. Therefore, Australia could consider having Hazlewood replaced.
