Australia will now host South Africa in a T20I and ODI series. With a transition looming ahead, Australia is making some key changes to prepare its white-ball squads for the future. Here, we take a look at the list of three Australians unlucky to miss out on the South Africa ODI series.
Australia ODI squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Lance Morris, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Short, Adam Zampa
1) Sean Abbott
Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are not a part of the series. Not long ago, Sean Abbott was the first backup pacer in the white-ball formats. However, he has lost his spot now, although the ODI format could be better suited for him. The likes of Nathan Ellis, Lance Morris and Xavier Bartlett have gone ahead of him in the race.
2) Cooper Connolly is one of the Australians unlucky to miss out on the South Africa ODI series
It is surprising that Australia does not have him on the squad. He is one of the future stars for Australia. However, it could be because of his recent poor run that the youngster is not there in the ODI setup.
3) Aaron Hardie
Mitchell Owen is in the ODI squad, too. It appears that Hardie is now given a second preference as the pace-bowling all-rounder in the team. With Cameron Green also having returned, the chances for Hardie have decreased a lot. Hence, he might be on this list by the selectors.
