Time and again, it has been proved that Test cricket is the ultimate format. Doing well in this format requires technical brilliance and a lot of soft-skills. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three batters who batted more than 40 Hours in Tests in 2024.
Batting long is a skill in this era because there is more reward for quick runs because of the emergence of the T20 format. However, at the end of the day, if you have to bat long, you need a lot of patience and fitness to survive. Hence, the requirements are different and not all can succeed in this.
3) Kane Williamson – 45 Hours
Despite his injury issues, Kane Williamson had a good run in 2024. His skills might have declined in the T20 format but as a Test batter, he was in top form. He scored some big runs and helped his team do well in general. He is in the last phase of his career and he will want to do better in the coming years.
2) Yashasvi Jaiswal – 51 Hours
Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the batters who batted more than 40 Hours in Tests in 2024. Not many expected Jaiswal to do so well in the Test format. For a player of this generation, being hungry for runs is a rare trait, especially in Tests. Scoring big has become a trademark of Jaiswal’s game and it is so good to see from the perspective of an Indian fan. He was decent in the Australian Tour, as well, and his next big challenge will be in England.
1) Joe Root – 61 Hours
Joe Root is arguably the best Test batter of this era. Hence, it is no surprise that he is at the top of this list. He is scoring runs across conditions and breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record might be on his agenda.
