The 2023 World Cup campaign of England is in tatters. The defending champions are on the verge of an early elimination from the mega event. Jos Buttler has proved to be a big flop as the captain of the England team because he has some of the best talents in the world in his team. Yet, England have managed only one win in the mega event thus far.
While England would not have minded losing against New Zealand and South Africa, the margins of defeats were quite alarming. The defending champions also suffered losses at the hands of lower-ranked nations Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
Jos Buttler’s men will play their next match of the World Cup against India at the Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Here’s a look at the three changes which England must make to bounce back.
1. Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow should swap positions for England in 2023 World Cup
The batting order of England has just not clicked in the World Cup thus far. The opening pair of Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan has failed to deliver good starts consistently, and the captain Jos Buttler should think of opening the innings with Malan, pushing Bairstow down the order.
2. IPL star Sam Curran should take the place of Chris Woakes
It is a little baffling to see Sam Curran warming the benches, especially because he has a lot of IPL experience under his belt. He knows the Indian conditions well. Chris Woakes seems to have past his prime now. Perhaps, England can give more chances to Curran.
3. Harry Brook in for Joe Root
Joe Root is a class player, but if England want to have Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali in the playing XI, they will have to pick one between Root and Harry Brook. Root has flopped in the last three matches. The Fab 4 member can be rested as a young Brook deserves an opportunity to showcase his talent.
