Several changes have occurred in the Indian Test Team following the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the Head Coach. Here, we take a look at the list of three cricketers who surprisingly have not played a Test under Gautam Gambhir so far.
Many players have retired, while a few new faces have also joined the squad. Interestingly, several players who were good in Tests earlier did not find a place in the side being coached by Gambhir. We will take a look at them in the headings below.
1) Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer was out of the Indian side for a while. However, he is now firmly back in the setup. However, ever since he lost his form in Tests, he has not found a spot in the squad. Nevertheless, he is now the captain of the India A side, which will feature against Australia. This means that he might have got a chance to have a crack at the Test format.
2) Axar Patel has not played a Test under Gautam Gambhir so far
It was way back in February 2024 that Axar last played a Test for India. For a cricketer who had such a strong start to his Test career, it is difficult to understand the reason for his absence. Now, it looks like India is grooming Harsh Dubey and Manav Suthar for the role as Ravindra Jadeja’s successor and backup. Also, at the same time, Axar’s importance in the T20 formats is high and his focus could be on those formats.
3) Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami is yet to play a Test for India in almost two years now. His last challenge in whites was against Australia when Dravid was the Head Coach. Fitness has been the main issue for Shami. Now, it appears that the management has moved on from him as a Test cricketer.
