Lanka Premier League 2024 has started. Quite surprisingly, the Sri Lankan cricket board started the tournament on July 1 itself. It shows that the board did not have much faith in the Sri Lankan team because the T20 World Cup final was supposed to happen on June 29.
Had Sri Lanka made it that far, they would not have been able to return home before July 1. However, the island nation was eliminated in the group stage itself and all players came home early. There are five teams, namely Kandy Falcons, Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Sixers, Galle Marvels and Jaffna Kings in the tournament.

1. Matheesha Pathirana is playing for Colombo Strikers in Lanka Premier League 2024
Matheesha Pathirana is one of the best death bowlers in world cricket right now. The right-arm fast bowler came into the limelight after his slingy action helped Chennai Super Kings dominate in IPL 2023.
Pathirana is now a regular part of the Sri Lankan team in the shorter formats of the game. He was the most expensive pick in the LPL Auction, signed by the Colombo Strikers team.
2. Mustafizur Rahman
Bangladesh’s left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman played for the Chennai Super Kings for the first time in 2024. He was among the Purple Cap contenders initially. After turning up for Bangladesh in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rahman is now playing for Dambulla Sixers in LPL 2024.
3. Maheesh Theekshana
Known for his spin bowling and archer type celebration, Maheesh Theekshana is one of the biggest match-winners in Sri Lankan cricket right now. The spinner is a member of the Galle Marvels team in the ongoing LPL tournament. He is sharing the dressing room with the likes of Mujeeb ur Rahman, Isuru Udana, Sean Williams and Alex Hales.
