When a team is set with a combination, usually, the management would not want to tinker with it. Also, some players would have purely been a part of the team as a backup. Hence, there are many reasons for a player to not get a game.
1) Shimron Hetmyer
It is a shock that Hetmyer did not get a single game in the tournament. He happens to be one of the best finishers in the format. A left-handed middle-order batter with brute strength is a priority for most of the teams. West Indies had him in the squad and yet, they could not offer him a spot in the playing XI.
2) Yuzvendra Chahal has been benched in the 2024 T20 World Cup
Chahal spent time on the bench in the last World Cup, as well. This time around, even Kuldeep Yadav did not play in the USA-leg. Hence, it is not a surprise that Chahal has not got a game till now. In fact, with only two games left for the Indian Team, Chahal might not feature in this T20 World Cup also.
3) Hazratullah Zazai
Hazratullah Zazai is one of the established players who were benched throughout the 2024 T20 World Cup. The opener with almost 50 T20Is to his name was the replacement for Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the squad. Although he is an opener, Zazai offers stability and experience to be a part of the batting line-up at other slots. However, Afghanistan was clear with its tactics. Zazai came in only as the replacement and he was going to be a backup for the openers.
