In recent seasons, we have seen the likes of Hardik Pandya and Marcus Stoinis open the bowling in IPL. The trend might continue in IPL 2024, as well. Here, we take a look at the list of three talented foreign all-rounders who could open the bowling in IPL 2024.
Some all-rounders may not have the best skills with the bowl in the middle and the endovers. However, they might have the ability to move the ball and this could be used by the teams in the powerplay.
1) Sam Curran could open the bowling in IPL 2024
The ideal bowling pair for the Punjab Kings would be Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh. However, it would not be a surprise if Rabada does not play or if PBKS would like to have some overs reserved for Arshdeep for the death. Hence, we could have someone like Sam Curran open the bowling for Punjab. He certainly has the game to excel and he has done that before, as well.
2) Cameron Green
Cameron Green is one of the foreign all-rounders who could open the bowling in IPL 2024. Yash Dayal does not give a confidence as the right new-ball partner for Siraj. Reece Topley may not play as the combination would require a middle-overs specialist. Hence, it would not be a shock if Cameron Green takes the new ball. He can be best used with the ball at this stage of the innings, thereby allowing him to provide full value as an all-rounder.
3) Azmatullah Omarzai
Hardik Pandya opened the bowling in some games for Gujarat Titans. While Umesh Yadav could take the job now, Omarzai could also be an interesting option. Against India recently, he bowled early and had a decent outing. While he is not the preferred choice in the playing XI from the start, if he gets a chance later in the tournament, he could surely deliver with the new ball.
