As per a few reports, Mumbai Indians are all set to release Tristan Stubbs before the next IPL season. Here, we take a look at the list of three franchises that might target Tristan Stubbs for IPL 2024 if Mumbai Indians release him.
MI cannot give consistent game time to Stubbs. The franchise does not need a keeper while the likes of Tim David will be preferred in the lower middle-order. Dewald Brevis is also not getting a lot of games at MI. Hence, it makes sense for the five-time champions to release Stubbs and invest in a good spinner or a fast bowler.
1) Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB needs to plan for life after the retirement of Dinesh Karthik. This might happen as soon as IPL 2024. While Finn Allen is already available as a good keeper, the Kiwi is not proven in the middle-order. Hence, it makes Stubbs a perfect fit for RCB. When Faf du Plessis also retires, an overseas spot would be available and Stubbs could neatly fit in the middle-order for the franchise.
2) Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR is one of the franchises that might target Tristan Stubbs for IPL 2024 if Mumbai Indians release him. Gurbaz was decent in IPL 2023 but he was inconsistent. The franchise also needs a successor for Andre Russel. Considering the lower middle-order might need some additional options, KKR can target someone like Stubbs. He is a quality cricketer and would instantly improve the team in the finishing department, which has recently seen the emergence of Rinku Singh.
3) Delhi Capitals
DC struggled because they lacked a quality backup for Rishabh Pant. Phil Salt is more of a top-order player and DC could not have played him in the lower order. Hence, a player like Tristan Stubbs will greatly help the franchise. Even if Pant returns next season, a backup keeper is necessary and with Rovman Powell also not firing, having someone like Stubbs on the roster will make good sense for the franchise.
