Kolkata Knight Riders are likely to release Venkatesh Iyer before the IPL 2026 Auctions. It is needed for the side to improve the strength of the squad before the next season. Here, we take a look at the list of three franchises which could target Venkatesh Iyer if KKR releases him.
For Iyer, as well, moving to a franchise or maybe returning to KKR at a lower fee will be a good step forward. Last season was disappointing, and he would like to correct that.
1) Delhi Capitals
Venky Iyer would be a perfect fit at Delhi Capitals. The pitch there might also suit his strengths. KL Rahul is back at the top of the order and hence, there is a gap in the middle order. Iyer would be a fit here, and Axar could move back lower down the order. With Karun Nair and Tristan Stubbs also in the mix, the batting looks better.
2) Gujarat Titans is one of the teams which could target Venkatesh Iyer if KKR releases him
GT needs good Indian middle-order batters. This would help the strength of the side. At No.4, if available, GT can consider Iyer ahead of Sherfane Rutherford, who was decent last season. Hence, he is on this list.
3) Chennai Super Kings
Iyer would still be an upgrade over Urvil Patel at No.3. Ruturaj Gaikwad could return as the opener with Ayush Mhatre linking up with him. This way, there is better balance and CSK could actually splash on a foreign finisher for the next campaign.
