Ravindra Jadeja failed in his short stint as CSK skipper. The management must ensure that it does not repeat again with Rutu. If that happens, they would be left with no options. 1) Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins is one of the future captaincy options that CSK can target in IPL 2024 Auctions. Having won the ODI World Cup as skipper, Cummins has registered for the IPL 2024 Auctions. If he can commit himself to coming to the IPL every year, he would be a fine option to lead CSK. The franchise needs an experienced head in the pace department. Pat would also serve this role if he is signed by the outfit. Him captaining a season or two before Ruturaj takes over could be the ideal plan.
2) Steve Smith is someone CSK can target in IPL 2024 Auctions
Yes, Steve Smith might have lost his mojo in T20 cricket, especially in IPL. That said, he is a fabulous cricketer and you cannot rule such cricketers out so quickly. Smith is back in the Australian T20 side after his brilliance in the last BBL. Now, he can be a good option to captain a franchise like CSK for a few years. Smith is a good player of spin and hence, him slotting at No.3 in the batting line-up would not be a problem.
3) Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Mitchell is also a part of this list of future captaincy options that CSK can target in IPL 2024 Auctions. Yes, the Kiwi might have not captained his nation before. However, if you take a look at him, he has a calm head on his shoulders and is very good at tactics, especially seeing his ability to read situations during a chase. With Stephen Fleming at the helm, surely, Daryl can be an option in this regard.
