The final match of the ICC World Test Championship series between the Indian cricket team and the England cricket team is currently underway at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Home captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to bowl first. India have gotten off to a steady start, but James Anderson has broken the opening partnership.
Ben Stokes won his first toss as a Test captain against the Indian cricket team, while India’s new skipper Jasprit Bumrah lost his first toss ever as a skipper. Here’s what Stokes had to say at the toss:
“We’re going to have a bowl. We’ve done pretty well chasing but the toss was pretty much dictated overhead. The wicket looks pretty good. Hoping to put them under a bit of pressure. Obviously coming into a new series quickly after a good performance against New Zealand but it’s a great opportunity to keep the momentum going.”
James Anderson dismissed Shubman Gill for the third time in Test cricket
India had to use a new opening pair of Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill for this match because Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are unavailable. The two openers looked solid, with Gill getting off the mark with a boundary in the first over bowled by Anderson.
Gill hit one more four off Anderson’s bowling but the experienced fast bowler had the last laugh as he dismissed the young Indian batter caught out in the seventh over. Gill edged a delivery from Anderson and the ball went straight to the fielder at second slip, Zak Crawley.
Soon after, a Twitter user pointed how Anderson picked up the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar nine times in Test cricket, the wicket of Virat Kohli seven times and the wicket of Shubman Gill three times. They are part of three different generations, but Anderson has a good record against them.
Anderson got Sachin 9 times, Kohli 7 times and Gill 3 times in Test cricket – that is three generations of Indian cricket.
