In a rather bizarre development, veteran Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik has dropped 23 places on the latest ICC T20I Rankings for batters. Karthik was ranked 64th on the rankings last week, but in the updated charts, he has dropped to the 87th position. It is difficult to understand the reason behind this drop because Karthik scored his maiden T20I fifty in the recently concluded T20I series against the South African cricket team.

The 23 players who have climbed above Dinesh Karthik are Matthew Cross, Rishabh Pant, Taranjeet Singh, Chirag Suri, Kieron Pollard, Matthew Wade, Brandon King, Ravija S, Kevin O’Brien, Muhammad Usman, Moeen Ali, Kusal Perera, Vritiya Aravind, Gerath Delany, Liam Livingstone, James Vince, Azhar Andani, Calum MacLeod, Kamran Khan, Afif Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan, Tom Latham and Sese Bau.

Most of the players are from associate nations. Interestingly, Kieron Pollard has jumped ahead of Karthik. Fans should note that Pollard has announced his retirement from international cricket. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, who had a forgettable series with the willow, has jumped above Karthik.

Parthiv Patel recently gave his opinion on Rishabh Pant vs Dinesh Karthik

Some members of the cricket universe think that Rishabh Pant may not find a place in the Indian team for T20 World Cup. They think Dinesh Karthik may replace him.

In a chat with Cricbuzz, former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel gave his views and said:

“The pressure will increase on Pant when the likes of Kohli, Rohit and Rahul return. Also, there will be a series before the England tour begins and and Sanju Samson has a chance of doing well there. There are also other options like Ishan Kishan and Dinesh Karthik.”
